Wednesday’s Maths Activity

Here are the answers to yesterday’s starter…

How did you get on?

Here is today’s starter…

Main Activity

In our third lesson on volume, we will be combing our new knowledge of cubic units and our work from lesson one on volume. We will work on understanding what cubic centimetre looks like in real life and have a go at estimating the volume of objects we see every day.

Have a look at the link below – look through the video and then have a go at the independent activities. Don’t forget to pause the video when asked to complete the questions in the video!

For extra practice or for a challenge, have a look at the following activity. There are three levels of difficulty so choose the level most suitable for you! 🙂

Wednesday’s Writing Task

This week we will be using ‘OAK ACADEMY’ to look at diary entries.

Today’s task is about exploring the features of a diary entry.

Watch the video and complete the independent activities linked to it on the slides.

Make a note of any of the language that you like – you might be able to use it when it comes to writing your own.

Wednesday’s Reading Task

On a Wednesday, your reading task will be to read a chapter from ‘Journey to the River Sea by Eva Ibbotson, so far you should have read Chapters 1-6 so today is Chapter 7! Chapter 7 is a very long chapter so it will be cut it half (the first half today, the second half tomorrow!)

Questions for the first half of the chapter:

Don’t forget to answer in full sentences and use a dictionary if there is a word you are unsure of.

1) Why was Beatrice smirking?

2) What has Maia seen that makes her want to stay at The Carters? ‘I’ve seen that it’s there. What I thought was there’

3) Do you think Miss Minton’s plan to get Maia outdoors will work? Give a reason to back up your answer.

4) Why is it so important for Maia to stay with the Carters? What might happen if she leaves?

5) What actions lead the silent sulkiness of the Carter servants to vanish?

6) Clovis decides to go up river to find Maia and Miss Minton. Do you think he will be happy with what he finds at The Carters house.

7) In the paragraph beginning ‘They paddled down a stream’ What do you think was happening?

8) Why does Maia describe the boy as like no boy she had ever seen?

9) Who is Maia talking about when she refers to the crows?

10) What does it mean by ‘she seemed to have read his thoughts’?

Wednesday’s Topic

In this lesson, we are going to become geologists! We have some problems to solve which are going to require us to make careful observations and construct an identification key to help us to identify different rocks. You will need a piece of paper, a pencil and a ruler for this lesson.
