English

Reading Task 1:

Read through Chapters 5 and 6 and then have a go at answering the questions below. Don’t forget to write in full sentences and try to use evidence from the text where you can to support your answers – particularly on the questions asking for your opinion!

Writing Task 1:

Today we are going to think about the for (Pros) and against (Cons) for a balanced argument.

Your title for your balanced text is:

SHOULD MY PARENTS LET ME EAT 3 CHOCOLATE BARS/PACKETS OF SWEETS A DAY?

You need to think about the reasons as to why this is an idea you would like to go for. You also need to think about the reasons as to why you think that this is not a good idea. A balanced argument means there should be as many FOR arguments as there are AGAINST.

When you have you for and against points, share your reasons with your grown ups at home. Do they agree? Will they be letting you have 3 chocolate bars or packets of sweets a day?

Spelling and Grammar Task 1:

This week, and for the next few weeks, we will be looking at the Year 5/6 spelling lists. These are the words that you are expected to know by the end of Year 6.

There are 5 spellings for you today:

accommodate accompany according achieve aggressive

For each of these spellings, there is a word mat for you to complete. You can do as many as you would like but make sure you start with the spellings that you find the most difficult.

Topic

Topic Task 1:

What does ‘Fairtrade’ mean and why is it important?

So far, as part of our topic ‘Going Global’, we have looked at some of the products which are imported and exported, the journey that some of these products go on and the different countries they might come from. You may even have done some cooking using some imported ingredients or had a go at making your own, for example pasta!

This week we will be looking at the ‘Fairtrade’ symbol. We would like you to find out what this symbol means and represents. Why is this symbol so important? How does it support farmers in other countries?
